Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Ocracoke vacation home experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Booking your Ocracoke vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Makin' Memories: Spacious home in private location has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
