Strategies for getting the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. Reserve your Ocracoke rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and choose the rightvacation home:

  • Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Hammock View: Canal front, private dock, close to Sound has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
