How to book the best vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, shift your family's Ocracoke trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to select the perfect rental home in Ocracoke:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Hammock View: Canal front, private dock, close to Sound has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your trip.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke destination you are crazy about, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
