Strategies for getting the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Selecting and booking yourvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. CR62: Wilson's Retreat has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you long to visit, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
