Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:

When to go & When to book:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Selecting the best rental in Ocracoke:

  • Start by having your family decide on date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Harbor III: Views of the lighthouse and Silver Lake. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke attraction you love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
