Tips to get the best Ocracoke rental home experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. A Gnome Home: Convenient to Restaurants and Coffee Shops has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
