Tips and Tricks to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Choosing the best rental:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. A Gnome Home: Convenient to Restaurants and Coffee Shops has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke attraction you are crazy about, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
