Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to select the perfect rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Loon's Loft: Wonderfully furnished condo centrally located. Pool. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. text the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
