Tips to get the very best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Finding the best value:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • To start, have your family select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Uncle Milton's House: Pet friendly cottage, close to harbor, marsh views. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
