The dock on Silver Lake Harbor is ideal for your boat (up to 21') or viewing the sunset over the harbor. Great for kayaking too. Just a short walk from the bungalow!

This bungalow with open living/dining/kitchen is the ideal getaway for a couple. Originally constructed in the early 20th Century, The L is listed on the register of Historic Homes on Ocracoke. Originally the kitchen extension for the William D Balance home.

Conveniences include complimentary wireless Internet access, a 40' intelligent TV with cable service, AC/heat, and ceiling fans. Stackable washer and dryer.

Sheets and towels are supplied. Beds are made for your arrival.

'The L' offers an broad lawn area, screened porch, deck, park-style charcoal grille, and hot/cold outdoor shower for your outdoor enjoyment. Parking for boat trailer. Off-site private boat dock on Silver Lake Harbor.

No Dishwasher. No Telephone.

No Smoking. No Family Animals. Parking is limited to 2 cars.

Short Stays are available; there is a three-nighttime minimum, and these stays can be booked within two weeks of arrival.

About the Area

Ocracoke is home to this vacation home. Ocracoke Lighthouse and British Cemetery are local landmarks, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Hatteras Landing Marina and Teach's Lair Marina. Ocracoke Pony Pens and Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum are also worth visiting. With motor boating and fishing nearby, you'll find plenty of adventures in the water.

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your Ocracoke rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.

  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective.
