Our top Ocracoke rental property booking tips and tricks:

Finding the best value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the most suitable rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Choosing the best rental home in Ocracoke:

  • Choose your dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. The 'L': Located in a quiet private setting. Dock. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
