Finding the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting and booking your Ocracoke rental home:
- Select vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Pet friendly cottage perfect for a couple or small family. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke attraction you are enamored with, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
