Strategies to get the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. Book your rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Scotch Bonnet: Dog friendly cottage perfect for two! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.

  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
