Ocracoke rental property booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Ocracoke restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking your Ocracoke vacation home:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Minnow: Waterfront efficiency cottage, hot tub, private sandy beach. has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before reserving your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
