Strategies to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. To find the best rental home within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Ocracoke attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing and booking the rightvacation home:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Two If By Sea I and II: Larger home with fabulous views of Silver Lake has 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon check in. text the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
