Tricks and tips to get the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose and book the perfect Ocracoke rental home:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Unique, Romantic, Cozy, Island Cottage on #1 Beach in America has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
