Ocracoke vacation rental home tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Ocracoke rental:

  • First, have your family commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Sawbones: Unique Pet Friendly A Frame Home has 4 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of issues.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
