Getting the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Ocracoke vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Hoi Toide Low Toide: Two homes in one. Canal front, boat docking. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
