Booking the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • To start, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Seaire: Spacious, open floorplan, convenient for kayaking. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
