Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Ocracoke vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Choose dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Still Point: Luxurious, spacious, exceptional waterfront home. has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
