Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation property experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Harbor II: Pet friendly, views of both the Lighthouse and Silver Lake. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
