Ocracoke vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing the perfect rental home in Ocracoke:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Badger Bungalow: Sunsets over Pamlico Sound, private boat dock. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
