Tricks and tips for getting the perfect rental experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your group select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Old Pamlico Inn Site: Large waterfront home with dock, amazing views has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke beach you long to visit, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
