Strategies to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. Reserve your rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select vacation week and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Crew's Quarters: Dog friendly convenient to restaurants, shops and galleries has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that no damages are linked to your stay, record any problem areas upon check in. text the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
