Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Ocracoke rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your search:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Ocra-cork: Dock, easy access to Pamlico Sound, rooftop deck, dogs allowed. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
