If you've never been to Ocracoke, you're in for a treat. It's one of the most unique places many will have the chance to visit. With 13 miles of pristine beach, it's no wonder it's been voted in the top ten beaches year after year. It's not hard to fall in adore with the simple going, laid back lifestyle.

If you're in the mood to stay busy, there's tons to do from inshore and offshore fishing with native guides, cycling, raking your own clams, kayaking and parasailing to shopping and trying one of the many great eateries on the island.

If you're more into calming, kick back on the porch in one of our locally made Adirondack chairs and watch egrets, ducks and otters off the back deck, or chill out with a book or movie from the home.

If you have been here before, there's always a few new places to check out and a chance to rediscover why you came to Ocracoke in the first place.

How to get the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in Ocracoke:

  • Start by choosing trip dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beautiful Canalfront Cottage, Perfect for Couples! has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
