Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • To get the best value, change your family's Ocracoke trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the right Ocracoke rental:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. No Ka Oi: Wonderful home tucked away in a quiet neighborhood with a large yard. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the host before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
