Tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your Ocracoke rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Outstanding Views of Pamlico Sound and Sunsets has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
