How to get the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and pick a perfect Ocracoke rental home:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Creek Road Cottage: Comfortable, bright, cheerful dog friendly home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the host before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your group.
  • If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you simply love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your contract.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
