Our top Vacation rental tips:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • To find the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • First, have your family decide on trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Conched Out: Close to Ocracoke's beaches, screened porch, deck views has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. text the host immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
