Strategies to get the best Ocracoke rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and choosing the right Ocracoke rental:
- Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Shrimp and Grits: Cozy home in a secluded neighborhood has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
