How to get the best deal on your rental

  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel catalogs that feature money-saving coupons, either offered independently by merchants, or through a relationship between the property management company and the local store itself. Look for these books and coupon books, since this allows vacation goers to discover the very same activities at a possibly substantial discounted.
  • Are you willing to alter your trip week? The off-peak shoulder seasons will offer you great rates on weekly rentals.
  • Many rental companies and owners offer discount rates for active and veteran members of the U.S. Military, or repeat guests to the same rental. Make sure to check with property management company to see if your travelling gang qualifies for a discounted rate.
  • Is there a certain experience you are most getting excited about during your stay? Make sure that you prioritize your proximity to the outdoor activities and points of interest you are most excited about.
  • Think about investing in trip insurance with your lease agreement. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the basic term cost, provides travellers reimbursement of their rental costs for any days missed due to health emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or expenses, such as an unforeseen hotel stay or extra gasoline. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforseen occurs (heaven forbid!).

General Rental Home Tips & Tricks

Many people are surprised to learn the number of vacation rentals can be found in their area of interest. With such a big selection, renters are sure to locate a rental which matches their wishes and budget.

Nearly all vacation homes in Ocracoke are privately operated and many are represented by well-known local property management companies. Property management companies are liked by property owners mainly because they manage the online marketing and operations..

Here are some tips and strategies to help you navigate the vacation home search and booking process.

Finding and reserving the right vacation property:

Before you start to book "Fielding's Cottage: Waterfront home, canal views, private dock.", go through our brief collection of considerations.

The Earlier, The Better

Ocracoke rental homes are reserved months (and up to a year) in advance. Booking your rental 6-12 months in advance is highly recommended, whenever possible. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years are excellent times to find and book your rental..

Pick your Town and Travel Week

Agreement can be difficult among loved ones, but as soon as this difficult part is complete everything will start to fall in place.

Selecting an Properly-Sized Rental property

Take a head count. How many beds and bedrooms will you need? Try to remember that a lot of rental homes advertise maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in the living room. You will need to figure out what is acceptable for your group. Generally vacation home listings will describe each of the unit's specific bedrooms and mattresses.

Exactly What Are You Prepared to Shell out?

Most vacation rentals are advertised with a cost range. Confirm the cost for your selected week. It may be at the high end of the range. If a few groups or family members are sharing the cost, always make sure each group knows their obligations and has agreed to a maximum they are prepared to chip in. In most cases, just one person in the group will be responsible for making the full reservation and collecting each party's contribution.

Its All About Amenities

What property features is your group looking for? Do you simply desire a vacation rental with a swimming pool, spa or beach volleyball court? Do you wish to be far from the crowds, or close to a city setting? Does the home have bicycles and beach toys available for use during your stay? Build a list of priority conveniences to guide filter your search.

Accessibility and Special Circumstances

Do people in your party have specialized needs? If wheel chair entry, elevators, pool lifts or other specialized devices are needed, factor that into your search. Almost all property listings will include a list of amenities.

Your Puppy Deserves a Vacation, Too

Do not forget to include your companion! Animal friends are welcome at a number of rental properties, but policies can vary. Type of pet, size and breeds could be limited. Study your contract very carefully! Extra fees may apply when animals are added. If in doubt, ask the property owner and get it in writing.

Its Time to Search

Many internet resources exist to match vacationers with rental owners.. Together with Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we advise searching Google for "Ocracoke local rentals" for local vacation rental management companies. Local property management companies take pride in a top-quality rental experience.

Negotiate

When you have located the rentalhome of your dreams, check to confirm your trip dates are available.

Some rental home owners will negotiate rates, and some will not. If they are unwilling to budge on a highly-desirable week, try getting an additional night. Off-peak weeks should be negotiable more often than peak-season..

Read the Agreement

You really should know which services are included:

  • Utilities
  • Internet Connectivity
  • Long Distance Phone Service
  • Pool and hot tub heating
  • Cable and pay-per-view TV
  • Cleaning Service
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance policies
  • Key exchange
  • Parking requirements

In addition to the normal rate, vacationers will need to pay state taxes when renting "Fielding's Cottage: Waterfront home, canal views, private dock.", as well as any other fees that may be required depending on their situation, including a dog charge, early check-in or later check-out fee, or a pool heat fee for private swimming pool usage during the autumn or spring months.

Do you know the Cancellation Policy?

Cancellation policies are different for each vacation rental. You will probably be offered trip insurance. Trip insurance, which frequently costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of your standard vacation rental price, provides travellers with reimbursement of their vacation costs (and subsequent rental home costs) for any days missed due to personal health related emergencies or storms, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as a unanticipated motel stay or additional gas.

Complete the Reservation

When everything looks right, it's finally time to sign a rental agreement. You'll probably be asked to submit a security deposit at time of booking.

Keep Your Property Manager's Info

Put the rental manager's contact information into your smartphone and wallet for convenient access to answers throughout your visit.

Congratulations! All that is left is enjoying your visit!

During your Stay

  • Photograph at your arrival. Record the overall condition of the rental property immediately upon arrival. We also advise immediately phoning the rental home manager with a report of any damages, along with your request for any necessary fixes. This will prevent disagreements during checkout.
  • You could need guidance for a gas fireplace, Television set or spa. Call your home manager. They are there to assist. A brief phone call helps prevent many complications.
  • Please be considerate of the community. Frequently, neighboring properties are lived in by permanent locals. Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by visitors next to your residence.
  • Ask a local. Local people can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best pizza, have a great night out, or the best areas for wildlife?
  • Make sure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.

Checking Out

  • Be certain that you've packed everything. Inspect drawers, bath cabinets and cabinets.
  • As soon as your things are all out, do a walk-through of the rental to be certain no damage occurred during your stay. If it is possible, do this walk-out review with the property manager present. If the property owner is not available, make certain to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a blast? Most rental management companies and rental search sites allow travellers to provide feedback. If your rental home and/or property manager was outstanding, they'll appreciate your recommendations. If anything was unacceptable and they did not correct it in a practical manner, or when the rental home was not as described, you may want to note that in your feedback.

Use Your Experience

Hold a vacation recap meeting with your travel companions. Did everybody have a great time? If everything was outstanding, next year's family vacation planning will be simple and easy. If not, you have gained invaluable experience that can help with your next search.
