Booking the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your family select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Beautiful Island Home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you long to visit, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
