The Ocracoke Harbor is easily the busiest quarter mile stretch of Ocracoke Island. Consisting of a small, lagoon-like section of saltwater, and lined by a semi-circle of docks, restaurants, shops, marinas and motels, visitors will find that any and all of the activities on Ocracoke Island can most certainly be found harbor front.
Jolly Roger Pub and Marina is considered Ocracoke’s “premiere and most authentic waterfront restaurant.” The Pub's main attraction is its location. Even the most exquisite cuisine would have a hard time competing with the Pub’s views of Silver Lake’s harbor and gorgeous sunsets - not to mention it’s sitting right in the heart of Ocracoke Village, one of the most sought-after vacation spots in the world.
Even so, at least one fan says she returns every year for the Pub’s North Carolina pulled BBQ, it’s sweet potato fries and coconut cake. Others praise the fresh catch dinners, the burgers and fries and the friendly service. And in 2005 Southern Living Magazine picked Jolly Roger for its “hearty fish sandwiches.”
Housed in a cozy beach-cottage-style building painted a bright blue, the restaurant is accessible by land and boat and has a large deck for dining outdoors and taking in all the action at the marina along with the scenic views. Dining is casual, with a menu featuring homemade appetizers, “Sea and Landlubber Sandwiches” and “Pirate’s Booty Basket Dinners.” As an extra bonus during the summer, patrons are treated to live music several nights a week on the deck.
Most who visit Jolly Roger Pub say if you want gourmet, go somewhere else, for them the casual fare, friendly service, and most of all sitting back with a beer and appetizers, watching the pelicans and the turtles and the boats cruising in and out of the harbor, are what Ocracoke’s all about.
