You don’t have to be a millionaire to take the family to one of the top vacation spots on the planet. Ocracoke Island’s Beachcomber Campground lets you enjoy all the richness of an Outer Banks vacation at a price most can afford.

The campground is conveniently located on the island’s main drag, Irvin Garrish Highway (or Hwy 12), just a mile from what was voted the “Nation‘s Number One Beach” in 2007. The campsites includes electric and water hookups, picnic tables and grills, with cable TV available at some sites.

Fully-equipped and spacious bathrooms with hot water, as well as a trash dump station, are found near the on-site Foodmart that provides further convenience to campers. Along with groceries, the mart offers a deli, t-shirts, souvenirs, beach supplies and camping and vehicle fuels - and the only self-serve ice cream bar on the island, with a choice of 50 toppings.

Beachcomber also offers bike, golf cart and 4 X 4 beach ride rentals and a centrally-located fish-cleaning station. Pets are welcome too, with reasonable fees and restrictions. As a final bonus, there’s live music several nights during the summer season.

Camping is a great way to experience the most luxurious assets of Ocracoke Island - mostly found in the great outdoors. Its pristine beaches, soundside sunsets, clean air, along with lots of history and fun, are free for all to enjoy.

Note: The new management at Beachcomber advises making reservations as soon as possible, as their campground fills up quickly.
