How to book the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Pipe Dream: Condo with pool access. Centrally located. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is right for your family.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

More considerations for your visit:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Contact the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
