Strategies to get the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. To find the best value, change your family's Ocracoke vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the best rental home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. The Net House: Quaint Restored Cottage Once a Net House has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
